Operation Shower: Fort Hood

On Saturday, December 8th, 2007, 45 Army spouses from the 1st Medical Brigade were showered with gifts at Fort Hood, Texas.  It was a wonderful event and an honor to be there.  Each of the moms received a box full of baby shower goodies donated from companies and individuals around the country.

Keilan, the son of co-founders, Lena and Ed Morrissey, kicked off the festivities with a wonderful rendition of “i’m so glad to be here” (a song he had recently learned in kindergarten).  It was so appropriate as we were thrilled to be there to not only let the families know we are so thankful for their service but to also wish them the best with their new babies and babies on the way.

We were thrilled to be welcomed by Colonel Robert D. Tenhet and his wife, Mary.  They were appreciative and so kind while we were there.  We thank them and everyone who helped us make this shower a success, expecially Ginny Hawkenson.  It was a great honor to also be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and Unit Coin from the Silver Knights of the 1st Medical Brigade for our support of the soldiers and their families.  Such an honor it was.

Here is an excerpt from a letter sent by Colonel Tenhet following the shower:

Ms. Morrissey,

On behalf of the 2,700 Soldiers assigned to 1st Medical Brigade, we extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to you, your family, friends and the companies who donated items, for displaying such gracious generosity during Operation Shower and making Christmas a whole lot brighter for our Brigade moms.  We had maximum attendance from both Soldiers who are expecting to spouses of Soldiers (most deployed) who are either expecting or recently gave birth to their child.  In fact, following Saturday’s shower party, one of our Specialists went straight to Darnall Army Medical Center and, 4 hours later, gave birth to a healthy, 8 lbs boy!!!

It is only through your tireless efforts and hard work—not to mention having you and your family travel across two states from your home—that Operation Shower for our 44 mothers was a resounding success!  It was obvious to both Mary and me that you have a wonderful family with big hearts and sincere love for others.  Our Commander in Chief, President Bush, recently noted that the holidays, “is a time to gather in the spirit of gratitude with family, friends, and neighbors, it is also an opportunity to serve others and to share our blessings with those in need.  By answering the universal call to love a neighbor as we want to be loved ourselves, we make our Nation a more hopeful and caring place.”  Thanks to you, your husband, Ed, your son, Keilan, and Cheryl and Curt Lindeman for playing such a significant role in making Fort Hood and 1st Medical Brigade a more hopeful and caring place….. . . . .

Many thanks to the generous companies and individuals who contributed to the Fort Hood shower (see companies here).  Thank you for making Operation Shower: Fort Hood a success!
